The Musicmaster basses I have are 1 1/2 inches thick - so that's pretty close - you'd only have 1/8th of an inch of wood at the bottom of the cavity, which leaves very little room for routing error.

However, measuring the actual Jag tremelo mechanism, you only need 1 1/8 inches of clearance for it - which will then give you 3/8ths inch of wood on the bottom with a Musicmaster body.

Also, if you get the tremelo tailpiece first, you'll see that there's really only one part of it that extends deeply into the body, and thats the part with the tremelo spring on it, so you could go with a shallower routing, and then a smaller deeper are for the spring.

Another tailpiece to look into is the Van Ghent tremelo that was used on Hagstrom and Guild guitars in the 60s - they can be found fairly cheaply and are easy to install.Krishnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02851573083956321041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4140642955858547880.post-8944543381715023722009-03-05T00:02:00.000-05:002009-03-05T00:02:00.000-05:00hi, could you tell me how deep the cavity for the ...hi, could you tell me how deep the cavity for the trem is? i'm thinking of installing a jag/jazzmaster trem on my musicmaster but am unsure of the dimensions to make the cavity... or if the body is even thick enough for that matter. in the end, i want it to be something like this, except on a musicmaster, not a mustang:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3270/2655868739_d13a1a53e9.jpg?v=0Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16201555269231517018noreply@blogger.com
